What to Pack for Camping with Troop 42

Having the proper equipment for an outing or overnight campout is more than just being comfortable, it's a safety issue. A sleeping bag rated for 20 degrees or above is inadequate and dangerous when the temperature drops to below zero. Similarly, climbing up a steep mountainous trail requires hiking boots with the proper support to prevent injury to your ankles.  Troop 42 wants to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun time on our outings. As a result, we require a minimum set of equipment that varies depending on the season.

AMC Packing Guidelines

Camping Checklist

The Boy Scout Motto is "Be Prepared". This is especially true for overnight camping trips regardless of the season. To ensure that every scout is prepared, Troop 42 has established a minimum set of gear for overnight campouts. You can bring additional equipment as long as it is not a safety issue and you can carry it yourself (see pages 51-54 and 213-219 in the Boy Scout Handbook).
